Getting Started...

Ready for high school Algebra?

It pays to be sure, because if your pre-algebra skills and knowledge are "shaky", you may discover the rigor of high-school algebra to be a significant or even daunting challenge.

Algebra Readiness is a self-guided mini-course designed to assess your preparedness for Algebra, and to help raise your pre-algebra competencies as needed. Although this is a NON-CREDIT course, taking it will increase the likelihood of your future success in Algebra I.

It is recommended that you complete this course BEFORE beginning Algebra I.
However, lessons in this course can also be used for on-demand remediation while you are taking other Algebra courses. For example, if you are in Algebra I and having difficulty solving algebraic equations because you're "fuzzy" about how to multiply and divide fractions, simply run through Algebra Readiness lesson 04, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and it will help bring you up to speed on that particular math skill.

Using this mini-course :
Algebra Readiness includes 16 lessons, each covering an essential pre-algebra concept. Each lesson begins with a short pre-test which will be scored automatically. It is highly recommended that you always take the pre-test first.
Depending upon your score on the pre-test, a prompt will suggest that you either continue through the lesson or skip to the next lesson.
To go through the interactive lesson, click on the "Learn" tab. To try practice questions that give immediate feedback, click on the "Practice" tab.
Click on the forward arrow button to advance pages. Some pages have animations and slides with additional buttons to click where indicated.
There are four buttons at the bottom right that activate pop-up tools. The first is a simple calculator. The second is a lesson glossary which includes definitions of key terms for each lesson. The third is a notepad for jotting down or printing notes. The fourth is a jump menu for jumping directly to any point in the lesson.
When you have completed a lesson, or if you wish to return to the index, click the "BACK" button on your browser to return to the Algebra Readiness Index page.

Then, once you have gone through all 16 pre-tests and the accompanying lessons (as needed), you should be ready to take the diagnostic exam at the beginning of Algebra I.
NOTE: With slower Internet connection speeds, lessons make take a minute or so to load.
